The Basic Concept ("The secret") of Svengali Cards Deck

Svengali Card Decks also known as a short and long card deck. This type of magic trick decks consist of two group of cards. One group consist of various regular playing cards and the other group consist of "same value" of cards (multiple cards). By setting the cards by combining the two groups to be perfectly interlace into each other, you can riffle the decks and create an illusion that the card deck is completely ordinary, however the cards deck could not handed over to the spectator to be examined or the secret would be revealed.

The effect works when you set up the cards by combining the two group of cards, first place a normal card face down then put a "duplicate card" face down on top of it. Continue alternating betwen the two group of cards until it perfectly interlace into each other.

When the svengali deck is riffled front to back (face-up), only the normal cards are visible. when it is riffled back to front (face-down), only the shortened cards (the duplicate cards) are visible. When you cut the face-down svengali deck, your hand would ("touch") cut at the longer card, that made the the duplicate cards (the shorter one) always be the top card of every cut deck.

Svengali Deck Cards Tricks

There are many card magic tricks you could do using svengali deck, some of the tricks are below:

Finding your own card
The magician riffle the deck and ask a spectator to either say stop or use their finger to select a card. The spectator see the card and then put it back in the deck. The magician then cut the deck into several face-down piles and ask the spectator to choose one of the piles, free choice. The magician take the top card of the choosen pile and reveal that the spectator succesfully finding their own card.

Ambitious card
The magician riffle the cards to show that the cards deck is a normal deck. The magicican then ask the spectator to cut the deck to select a card. The spectator then take the card and show it to the audience and put it the card back to the deck. The magician then cut the deck few times and tell the audience that it seem that the chosen card is an ambious card, the card that always want to be the top card in the deck. The magician then turn over the top card to reveal that the chosen card is already at the top. The chosen card then put it back to the middle of the deck, the magician wait a second and then turn over the top card and reveal that the chosen card is already back to the top again.

Prediction card trick
The magician give an illusion that he can predict what kind of card a spectator will choose by writing it down on a piece of paper before the trick begin.
